It is easy to connect with people that want to connect with you. The outlook tool bar helps you invite your existing contacts and you can email others as you meet them/they you. "Open Networkers" will connect with anybody if that is your goal join a group...

For me LinkedIn has been very helpful compared to this forum so I have decided to quit here. Being in LinkedIn since august I have found:
1. Two freelance tasks and several other contacts maybe leading to something.
2. Being active in LinkedIn answers and publishing link to my blog article about the topic nobody ever have accused me about "self promotion" like it happens here. I have decent traffic to my articles from LinkedIn answers.
3. When I have joined to affiliate program and publishing relevant affiliate link with my answer it's acceptable and this way I have done several affiliate sales which is current main compenstation method spending your time in internet consulting others.

Default Open-minded about LinkedIn

I saw the subject of this thread and was set to reply one way:

LinkedIn is like the phone book. You're part of group that has something in common, but you'd never think of getting in touch unless you had a prior connection. That's related to one of Logan's points. I am a member myself, but I haven't checked-in for months.

What makes a community like SBIF way different is that you're doing a lot more than simply listing your contact info.

BUT - after reading what Corey Bryant and Your Brand had to say - I'm ready to look into some of the LinkedIn networking possibiilites more. I also had no idea about the meet-ups and such. So, my mind's open at the moment.

I have found it useful in the sense that personal contacts that i maintain independant of linkedin can use linked in as a way to refer me to friends of their's. It isn't an amazing success for me but has proven useful a few times.

There is also a very important sales mechanism here that you all are missing. Let's say I am trying to establish a relationship/do business with a company in my area, but I don't know anyone there. I can use LinkedIn's search function to find out which employees of that company are on LinkedIn. It also shows me who and how many connections sit between them and myself. So, I do the search and find out that the wife of one of my old college buddies is the marketing manager there. Great, I might have an "in"...

Is this scenario applicable for all? Of course not, but for those of us who are in active new business mode, LinkedIn can be a very powerful tool.

I have just registered (two weeks ago) but i was not too active on it. For me is a social community and i know it takes time until the results to be visible.

I was wondering the same thing just last week. I spent time on my linkedin profile each week and I started wondering if it was worth it. Just this Monday I was contacted though linkedin and I picked up a new client. So I guess it does work!

You're right, getting a connection is a difficult one for LinkedIn, I kinda link Ecademy.com, people there are pro-active.
