I am not sure if you are getting my point - spend some time on your blog adding comments using .edu and .gov and .org links to authoritative sites in your niche.
This establishes your blog as a go to place for quality information. Outbound links to authority sites are valuable.
On the inbound front, search using google blogs to find some niche specific blogs and, after you have read the article, you should have a meaningful comment to add.
Use different anchor text or the business owners name - don't use the same anchor text every single time - it looks unnatural.
And remember to do a blog search and add a few links every week or so for a couple of months.
This way, you will have a natural upward curve to your work, and most likely each time you do a search through goolge blogs, you will use slightly different search terms and come up with differing results.
Don't just focus on the first few pages, drill down to page 6 - about 15 and check out these blogs.
Often, some really successful high traffic blogs are not well optimised and lurk further down the rankings.
