Default Simple Revelations????

Tell us what was simplest and at the same time biggest revalation for you having to do with your computer and or the Internet.

For me, promise not to laugh...........it was learning to copy and paste.

So simple, but I was so excited when I learned how to do this primarily because I was so scared of the computer.

And not long ago I showed my sister how to do it and I'll never forget her reply.............................WOOOOOOOOOOW!

Funny Scott. We were all there at some point though. I'm not sure what my revelation was. I think it may have been discovering I could cycle through different programs using alt+tab.

I saw someone else switching programs without a mouse and asked how he did that. I hadn't realized how powerful the keyboard could be until then.

10 years ago, when I was 14, I got to create a brochure for my class. I was the only one in the class to have a computer and with a lot of help from my mother I have created a brochure, which I thought it was marvelous. I was, at that time, sure that in graphics a good rule would be "the more, the better", so I have inserted a lot of graphic aids. I think that now I would have a good laugh looking at the brochure and imagining my thoughts back then ("Oh, it is great, I love it, who could beat me with that. This is absolutely fantastic!")

Nice times.

For me it was find and replace

There have been a few milestones though, and one of the best from a marketing angle was seeing how quickly data could be sorted in a spreadsheet/database. It revolutionised our teleselling (when we did that)

I was pretty sure that I was the coolest guy in the world when I learned how to perform functions in Excel.

I was working for years in sales and I actually manually added all of my columns on a calculator and then entered by hand. Anytime I made a change I had to manually update the totals. One day, my assistant watched me do it this way and said "Ummmm.....Jason........I know you know what you're doing, but....."

Anyone else want to contribute to the simplicity?

I'll just jump in with my biggest productivity booster... going to two monitors.

It's such a simple thing, but for me, it made a huge difference in what I could accomplish each day.

The Word Processor. After having access to a computer I did not have to write anymore in a Typewriter. Backspace Key did everything for me instead of using Liquid Paper and I could go back to the lines and rewrite without having alignment issues. That was awesome !!!

Default The advent of the mp3

For me, a big music fan, the ability to encode a song into a 4mb file was just an astounding revelation. This was way back around 1996. I couldn't believe the quality that could be achieved using such a small file. Being able to fit 100 CD quality songs on a standard CD still boggles my mind. I couldn't wait to buy a portable device to play my songs. Isn't is surprising how long it took for the iPod to be developed?

Kudos to Fraunhoffer or whoever first developed mp3!
