Default School Supply Business

My wife is very interested in starting a school supply business. She is a stay home mother, also attending nursing school. A couple days ago she helped a young mother supply her child with school supplies. She was so excited that she was able to help them out. Now there is idea's being thrown around about starting a business. I'm asking for help and info on were to start.

I'm not sure I really understand the premise of the business... does she want to sell supplies, manufacture them, start a retail business, be a personal shopper, help find funding for people who can't afford supplies... what's her idea?

Hi tyadams!

My only comment is that it's a HUGE leap from 'having some fun' to running a business. You know... the real good cook that everyone says 'You should open a restaurant'?? Ever hear that. Only to find that the restaurant 'tanks' with a big loud THUD.

There is a HUGE difference between being good at something or liking something to running a business. For starters....
  • Sales
  • Accounting
  • Bookkeeping
  • Staff and hiring
  • Location
  • rent
  • working capital
  • website... because you need one.
  • sales
  • sales people
  • marketing (different from sales)
  • budgets
  • bylaws and permits
  • insurance
  • investment

Uh.. get the point or do I need to continue.

I wish you all the luck and hope this helps!
