Facebook Help Needed

Can anybody tell me how to increase the numbers on Facebook? I have one personal page and two group pages. I have 120 FB friends. When I started out I saw FB's 'Suggestion as friends' section and I 'invited' six but must have done it too quickly. I was blocked because 'too many people ignored my requests'. After a week I tried again.
I tried ONE suggested friend who had 26 friends in common. I was blocked again for the same excuse. I now know that it would have been wiser to try 2 a day but I am too nervous to try again. Should I be? Can I find out a safe way to proceed?
Also, I have spent hours Googling how to build up my number of friends or followers.
A COMPLETE waste of time. Not a hint that was of any use.
I have some good articles on my group pages about self help for meditation, happiness and positive thinking. How can I get people to visit?
On my personal page, I have jokes and Tarot readings but almost zero interest.
Obviously I need more friends but how can I get them? Surely there must be some way apart from ONE email to ONE person? I don't mind starting that way but how can I get some viral growth? Can anybody give me some advice or help? Anything at all would help. I have added 3 new friends in the last seven days.

For starters, I think you have to step back and think about a few things. Once you have friends, what is your end goal. Are you marketing something, what is your business/purpose?

Viral growth isn't based on a tool, but the message itself. You need a unique hook.

Regarding searching and not finding anything, it isn't facebook specific but do some searches for [link bait] and [link baiting] for information on tactics/ideas to generate viral growth. There are some threads here on this forum, search above ... and you will find a bunch via google. That may help start to get some ideas of what you need to do to get viral growth.

Just getting as many friends as possible is a waste of time for biz. A lot of people try to get as many friends as they can and so will friend everybody. However, though they have 2,300 friends they only actually pay attention to 35 of them - and you are probably not in that 35.

Think about how to get friends who are interested in your pages not just in increasing their number of friends.

Find other pages about

and trying liking/friending them. If friending send a a short personal msg with the friend request about how how much you agree with their philosophy/think they are interesting or whatever is appropriate - to make it look like you are genuinely interested rather than just upping the number of friends.

The others have given you some good advice.

I would also add that if you are trying to market yourself/biz then you should have a Facebook PAGE and commit to updating it on a daily or every other day basis.

Facebook Pages are PUBLIC and indexed by the search engines, whereas Groups and personal profiles are NOT. This is key. Your time/effort should be focused here.

Set a goal to get a base level of Fans or "Likers"--maybe 25 so you can get a custom URL. Ask some of your current Facebook personal friends to Like it. If you have a blog or website, add a badge or icon to let people know about your Page. Tweet about it. If you have email subscribers, always be directing them to it. After someone subscribes to your list, add a link to your Page on the Thank You page they are sent to and encourage them to Like your Page.

Your frequent updates will go into the News Feed, exposing you Page to an ever-increasing # of people. That's when things become viral.

I've been studying facebook for the last couple of months and in particular fan pages as they are such an incredibly powerful way to advertise your business / services.

I managed to get to 1700 fans in 30 days and it's climbing daily.

There are 10 key strategies I used to get fans these include;

1. Facebook friends
2. Posting on groups
3. Creating a group
4. Linking to blog
5. Linking to You Tube
6. Twitter
7. Fiverr
8. Creating events
9. Free Gifts
10. Marketplace

There are also loads of other strategies, so I'm just scratching the surface at the moment.

As I built the page and went about promoting etc I decided to record all my learnings. I made some free videos explaining how to create a page, add a landing page, add video etc and then explode your fans. I'm still working on part 2 of exploding your fans.

Thanks everybody for all the great advice that has been posted. Unfortunately I am new to IM and not so good on the computer.
I have a philosophical/lifestyle Facebook group page I want to get up and running. In order to find where the niche interest lies I must get the views of as many people as possible.and find their main interests. My business/financial plan depends on where that interest lies.
That is why I am interested in numbers. I'm not bothered in whether they are called friends, fans or followers.
I will replace the group page with a new business/fan page.
I have two queries:
1)When I send a post to any fans, it goes on their page and their friends can see it. Is that correct?
2)I can invite my friends to become fans? If so, here is my main problem. I have been blocked twice by FB. I do not want to be blocked again. Could somebody please suggest how to word the invitation who to send it to and how many to send out at a time?
Any advice at all about the above two queries will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again to everybody who has already advised me.
