Default Wiki Or Blog For SEO

To increase relevant traffic to a site, is wiki better or blog better?

wiki by nature is a multi-user collaboration tool, so if nobody contributes to the wiki, then, it is just a system with oneself as THE user. It is like defeating the purpose of having a wiki in the first place.

While blog is single user tool, it seems to me lacking the comprehensiveness of a wiki page. Thus, may not be good to attract good links, compared to a wiki page??

What's your take and recommendation, should I use a wiki or blog to get more traffic?

Thanks in advance,

Why cant you do both? and split test both sites to see which one performs better in getting you what you need...then run with the one that is doing better or continue working both sites.

Good Luck!

You know what? both have some advantages, so in fact doing both will increase your scores, that's for sure, and it's really hard to draw any statistics, just practice will show the results

I also suggest to use both, test things out.

Using them both is the best because you will have some comparison and you'll know which is better.

Blogs are NOT necessarily always a single user tools. Lots of companies have blogs where many employees contribute. And whether the content is generated by one person or one thousand people has absolutely no bearing on the quality of links it attracts.

Neither a blog nor a wiki will get you more traffic. The traffic you get will depend on the quality of your content and how well you promote your site and drive traffic to it. Writing good content alone does not guarantee traffic.

If you want a wiki or a blog, I would base your decision on how much content you want to generate vs. how much you want site visitors to generate.

There is a lot more overhead IMO with WIKI systems if you want "good" content. Since you are not writing it, you had better be moderating it all to make sure that your wiki isn't getting spammed with a bunch of misinformation and self promoting information.

With blogs, it's usually you and possibly a handful of other people you trust generating the content. It's much easier to manage the quality of what is produced.

Thanks Social-Media and others for your suggestion.

I attended a search engine SEO training last week and asked the same question there. The SEO guru who gave the training recommended me to do blogs. He mentioned that blogs are these days having same or better SEO effect than wiki.

Plus, the added advantage of allowing other people to comment on the blog probably will drive more traffic than a wiki, as it is more interactive compared to a wiki.
