Default Does Anyone Find Google Analytics Confusing?

I think I like G.A. but I get confused by the data sometimes, I just can't understand how it all relates. I am a mechanic and I think my learning style is kinesthetic and maybe a little visual and there are many times I wonder where I might find an explanation that fits my needs. So after trying searches and watching videos I figured I'd ask here. Is it just me? Does anyone know if there maybe a schematic of the interactions of the data in G.A.? At first it was great just seeing where and how many people were finding my site, and as time goes on I would like to exclude most of the world from the data and just include 3 states. I would like to know keywords used, towns, and times of day. I see custom reports and advanced filters and it sure does seem like I should be able to come up with something, I hope it doesn't take me a year.
Thanks for listening,
Jerry

P.S. What do tags added to this post do?? Icons??

I hope this is helpful to you as I was confused with so much information on the internet, G.A. included. It has taken me a year and that is why I know the confusion. New Rich Report has detailed day by day instructions for following online business and gives the details you need to sort through every program you use. It was so helpful to me after so much confusion. Check it out with the link below. It seem like a God sent after I had so much information to sort through like G.A.

As for Google Analytics is ok and it helps me a lot, but of course at first I had some difficulties with using it.

At first I refused to use it as I found it confusing and preferred Statcounter. But after going to a Google workshop I was amazed at the potential of GA and have never used Statcounter again.
You need to take some time to go through the site if you want to make full use of GA.

They are just another way to categorize a thread by keywords if you want to.

I'd start with building a custom report for what you can do easily. For example, can you get things in place for city, keyword and hour of day based on those dimensions.

I'm curious, why is the hour of the day relevant to you?

Tags = meta data, it's arguable wether or not tagging everything is helpful to getting your site to the front page of goog, but you should always use proper tags , imo. If even for future 'semantic web' considerations.

Icons are a way to add an image to your post(many people search google via 'images')... this is only helpful to ranking if the image file is named considering your keyword research.

Thanks for all the responses. After struggling with GA. for a month, the day after posting my concerns much of my confusion cleared. I wonder if the act of putting my confusion into words was responsible. I still have a lot to learn but for now I have a lot to get excited about. Joshua99, I liked statcounter also. Logan, I use GA for local search for an auto repair shop, if I get 1 call a day I would consider it a great success and many times I can put together the searcher with the car I'm working on. I don't know what I will see as I look at the hr. I'm just curious. To me drilling down on custom reports is still a little troublesome, I don't remember I need to click on things, so I may not be drilling down to the hr of day much. I'm just happy to know I can do it. In some respects it feels like video games I used to play in the 80's I click on everything to see if something I can use pops up.

I'm glad its starting to come together for you. I've always had some trouble with GA--I'm not sure if it matches how you have been feeling--I just can't figure out what to do with the information! Maybe it's just been that my sites haven't really been commerce/lead driving sites...
