Default Medical Supply Business

Hi All,
So I've been thinking about opening up a Medical Supply store, and sell online as well. What do you think of this idea?
I'm just not sure where to start, and need to know distributors?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Are you already in this field? If not I certainly wouldn't start buying premises. If you know little/nothing about the business either leave it alone or do some research and start with a website.

I agree, start small if you choose to go that route. First things first, start selling. I'm sure if you walk into any business and tell them you want to help them sell more they'll be happy to listen to what you have to offer. One theory about working for someone else before starting your own business is that experience gives you an opportunity to learn and make mistakes on someone else's dollar ... plus learn from their expertise.

I maintain a directory that includes medical supply businesses
http://medical.atyourbusiness.com/supply.php

Plus maybe look at some of the other internet directories and do some searches. That's one thing about medical supply, I think there are more than a few. Something to consider as well, it's a competitive area where margins of a penny can be the difference between a sale and not.

I think in a field like this, where there is a relatively small number of large purchasers, that you really make sure that there is room in the market for you. The large purchasers may have long term supply contracts, which will make it very difficult for you to break in.

I am thinking about a retail type of a medical supply store.

Hi Princess1122:
Have you any experience of retail medical store or even work in. If you have, you can definitely be successful in running the retail medical store.
wish you all the best for future

Hi Smartinmind,
I don't have any experience, but plan to go working in one, just to see how its run.

I would also look into contacting an attorney before you legally setup your business. Find out what type of possible liabilities could be facing you.
