Default Is it really worth it?

Hi All

There were reports in the press the other day here in the UK that when asked what Blogging was quite a low percentage of people actually knew what it was! Many of them thought that they were referring to some other pursuit which it wouldn't be appropriate to mention here :-|

So my question is with all this emphasis on "Blogging" is it really worth it when such a large percentage of people haven't even heard of it? Is it just another "Fad" dreamt up by someone so that they can sell a load of software to those hungry for success on the Internet? Now don't go calling me cynical LOL

Take care

A blog can ensure your new sites get spidered, can give you backlinks, can get deep site pages spidered, and can become a good resource which will draw traffic, that you can pass on to your main site.

And most of the software is free!

Thanks OWG I must admit I was probably feeling a bit cynical having received several emails today telling me how the "latest" piece of software could guarantee me millions of blog hits etc LOL

Take care

And remember ... once upon a time, most people didn't know what an "automobile" was, either.

Don't let how well-known a technology is influence your need to investigate it. If you can perceive its value ... so will others. If you do not perceive its value ... well ... I guess the Internet explosion has taught us to wait a couple of weeks and seek its value, again.

Things will have changed.

A blog can be more than a personal diary or sales tool. You can use them as you would any communications tool. Don't get boxed in by format or what the bloggoshpere defines as a blog. Do be a little different or a very humerous to attract people.

As a webdesigner I encourage all my customers to attach a blog or forums to thier site. This encourages more open communication with their customers. Some have used it to announce news and events, others as PR extensions, one to review his product mix and give more specific info than his site does.

A blog separate from your site can make you seem an expert in your industry and you can link back to yourself or monetarize it with ads that do not compete head to head, but compliment your site. Or heck, make money off your competitors if they are paying too much for key words.

I have a couple of blogs and really enjoy writing on different themes and trying to find ways to earn a few dollars from them.

I have gotten such feedback from customers as my blog helped me become more "real" to folks in the huge vast array of primitive artists out there that they were looking at. I am loving my blog ....it makes me feel a bit more creativie and in touch with my customers on a personal level.....and so for me...it works!
