Exclamation I Trimmed My Twter Fat

A few months ago, I joined Twitter. And like most Twitter newbies, I immediately started following everyone under the sun - including everyone who followed me. I was petrified that if I didn't reciprocate being followed, then, my followers would stop following me.

Well, after I'd been on Twitter for about a month and observing some absolutely ridiculous tweets, I finally asked myself, "Why am I following all of these people? It's not like I'm desperate for business!" To continue reading this article click here.

welcome to the club. We have all been there. I also recommend using Twitterchuck.com to clean up your account. I started using it about a month ago and love it.

Could you elaborate more about the program? I myself am a blind twitter newbie who followed everyone within reach, but how do I separate the goodies from the nobodies? Is it viable for trimming down excess twitter fat safely?

Yes, reading unnecessary Tweets from different people can be quite annoying especially if you only follow their profile because they followed you. Removing people you don't know personally can actually make Tweeting more fun.

If you're building a really large Twitter Follower base to help with marketing and driving traffic - and of course sharing great information with your Followers - you want Followers who also Follow you back.

There's a great free program called Follow or Friend that shows you everyone you're Following who is not Following you back. You can manually unFollow all those who are not returning the Follow and keep the ones who are sending great Tweets. Then, of course, there are the automated software versions of this. It is harder to be personal with all your Followers once your list becomes quite large, over 2,000. But that's when the big traffic numbers begin.

Lots of people are using Twitter to market nowadays. That's because it works so well. But spamming is not tolerated by your Followers. You have to provide lots of valuable information, just like you do in all Social Media, even when that information doesn't directly lead to a sale. That's the Social Media rule. Unfortunately many marketers using Twitter haven't figured that out yet. But also many have.

It seems to be working for me.

Are you sure about that domain name? Because Twitterchuck.com does not exist.

Peter, I just finished using "Follow or Friend." I love it! It's a great tool, and it allowed me to further clean up my account. Thanks for the great tip!

Hi David,

I do agree with you, its not that if one is following you, you too need to follow him and hence its important that followers should follow you not we should follow many but only genuine ones.
