Default Tax-Friendly States

I'm a huge proponent of "voting with your feet" and "voting with your wallet." If you're thinking about starting a business, I highly recommend you take a look at what state you want to open that business in, based on their tax policies. For example, why would anyone want to pay 8% of their income to the government in MD, when they could pay 0% to the government in FL?

And if 8% of your revenue doesn't sound high to you, consider that that 8% could be the difference between you staying in business and you going under. Small businesses need all the help they can get.

Here's a tax map of the US for your reference:

Best of luck with your small business, whatever it is!

Cheers,

I live in Montana, and can attest to the low taxes here. Wyoming has us beat, but not by much. The city that I live in (Billings) was recently listed as one of the top 10 cities with the lowest tax burden.

Overall, I pay about $1k/year in property taxes, and about $1k/year in income taxes.

You really need to examine the tax picture. While some places have no income tax, you need to look at sales taxes, property taxes etc.
