Default 301 Re-direct And Out-going Links

Hola

We are about to launch a new website for a client on .co.uk

They were running a .com but this has not performed well from an SEO perspective

We are 301 re-directing all the existing pages using htaccess to the new.co.uk

i.e. www.mydomain.com/nutritional-supplements.com - www.mydomain.com/nutritional-supplements.co.uk

However, some pages have links outgoing to other websites, mainly link farms that the previous SEO has included them in

Do I need to remove these links off the .com before we launch .co.uk?

Will Google still be able to see that the previous .com was linked to these bad neighbourhoods?

I was on the understanding that htaccess comes before php and http, therefore the engines would not see the old pages and therefore not see the old links?

Thanks and I hope that makes sense!

Nutty

If the links are follow links they still point to the site. htaccess will preserve the good PR but also the bad. If they are old links they probably are disregarded by google at this point, especially if google recognizes the site containing the link as a link farm and nothing else.

Focus on what you can do for the future, the past is sometimes hard to clean up without starting fresh with a new domain.

You don't need to care about .com pages. .htaccess is processed by the server prior to php pages, therefore Google bot is redirected to your new site before it gets the content of your old pages.
