Hi, I would like some help refining my ideas.
I have been thinking of starting up for myself for a while, and the opportunity is coming up for me. We are moving to a new town approx 100 miles away on the east coast of the UK. I will have a few months once we move to either get a job (no!) or get setup in business.
I am 35 year old female with 15 years IT experience and currently an IT Manager. I have done just about everything you can think of including web design, building computers, management of networks, project management, systems design, administration, training, systems analysis, programming .....
I would like to get going before we move so things are easier when we get there so would like to do the preparation or begin trading from afar. I have a local address in the town already.
I have thought about web design but discounted this as the internet is awash with designers.
I have also thought about doing home repairs to computers, but experience has shown that people want a lot for nothing as they have little concept of the time it can take to sort out some problems to their satisfaction.
The two ideas I was thinking of was appealing to small businesses in the area to provide technical support to their networks on either a contract or pay as you go scheme. The other idea was also to provide training on a one to one basis or group.
I think as a woman in the IT industry it may be a unique selling point that I have the soft skills instead of techno babble. Would this be worth pursuing?
Your advice and help much appreciated.
Thankyou. Vicky.
