Default Website Age And Ranking

I'm wondering if anyone knows how important the age of a website is to Google? The reason I ask is that I see websites all the time that rank much better for keywords than mine, but are not nearly as well optimized as mine, nor backlinked - the only factor that stands out with these websites is that they are much older than mine. Can that be the primary factor?

Yes. Website age and trust is a large factor.

Default Web Site Age

Yes I also agree. Google does take the age of a web site into consideration. Other key factors include relevant external sites links, and number of pages on your site.

An old domain is bound to get some privileges as oppose to a new domain but this does not mean that every old domain will enjoy these benefits. Without having good content and good on page seo, it will never able to reap the benefits.

Yes website age is important. Still if you keep adding unique and useful content to your new website, after 1-2 years it can start competing with quite old websites.
