Default Getting Hits But Not Sales

Online selling is a new one for us, so we are feeling our way. Our website needs a few photos that should be up in a day or so, but the meat and potatoes of the site is up and running.

I placed ads on kijiji.ca and we are getting hits there and on the website, so people are looking but not buying. I have found us on google and yahoo as well. Perhaps I am too impatient! I'm wondering what to do to get them to buy! Sorry if this post is in the wrong section.

Any ideas are appreciated.

If you could post in the site review section and provide the link it would be helpful.

Try looking over the information at resources such as Grokdotcom, Marketing Experiments and Psychotactics. Getting visitors to buy -- the process of conversion marketing -- is an art and one that requires practice, the ability to honestly evaluate your own site's weaknesses and strengths, and a willingness to experiment and make changes when required. Sometimes even very small changes will make the difference, while other times a complete overhaul is necessary.

Those resources will help get you started.

As Torka mentioned GROKDOTCOM is good reference for finding out few basics things you should do. A brief list is here:

1. Make ADD to CART stand out
2. Give some buyign assurances
3. Give details about your business (who you are , whats in it for customers)

If you go to GROKDOTCOM you will find some free guides. I would suggest atleast reading

Just a quick question, how long have your site up and running?

You may be facing issues on following topics:

Target Market. Your website may be found on search engine but probably the target keywords are not good enough or they do not represent a buying situation. Example you can target "TV Sony" but the one that sells is "TV Sony 32" Flat Screen", so check your long tail keywords.

Customer Conversion. You may need to update your website, not only adding images but also using appropriated wording. This is also called CopyWriting, which takes care of pushing the appropriated personality's button according to the market that you are targeting. You may focus on building your mailing list first and then on selling. Here you will need to think on two point of conversion: Who converts to subscriber and Who converts to customer.

Rememer "The money is in the list"

I hope it helps,

Regards,

Jose

Hey, my two cents...

You need to TRACK, TRACK, TRACK. You should know where your visitors are coming from, how long they are staying, what pages they visiting, etc. Install Google.com/Analytics on your site or use GetClicky.com. Next, install http://crazyegg.com/ on your site so you know the behavior of your website visitors. You can make adjustments to your website designs.

You should also install Google's Website Optimizer tool and A/B split test every page on your site to see what converts better. The only way to improve your site's conversion is to test, adjust, and test again. It's a never-ending cycle, but the bump in conversions will be worth the effort.

Then, you need to understand your visitors, I assuming you've done some market research and surveyed your market so you know what emotions drive them and what BENEFITS they are looking for in a solution to their problem. Once you know this, you can create a compelling headline on the page that will catch your visitors attention, preferable with an image that will grab their attention as well.

Have a clear call to action on every page of your website, whether it is to order something right away or call a specific number. Have an opt-in form on the right of the webpage, so that you can capture your visitors information. Bribe them with a free report, coupon, discount, free item, etc. to give you their name and e-mail. The idea is now you will be able to follow-up with them in case you don't make the sale right away.

I hope this helps! Goodluck.
