Default New Business Start-up & Legal Zoom

What is your opinion of Legal Zoom? We are starting an internet business and are wondering if we could go through Legal Zoom for issues such as name protection, or if we need to hire an attorney.

For trademark issues (which would be what you'd need for "name protection") personally I'd go through an attorney, specifically a trademark attorney.

TM is a complicated issue, and mistakes can lead to significant liability. I think Legal Zoom et. al. are OK for some things, such as a simple will or perhaps basic incorporation. But when you start getting into complex things like trademark registration, you really need to have an expert guiding you through the process.

Thanks, Torka! We appreciate your input. We were thinking the same thing and are making arrangements to talk to someone.

Thanks again!

Default Options in-between

There are business legal service plans that offer the best of both worlds:
  • Legal forms and documents
  • Legal consulting to review the forms
And with a business plan, you would also get unlimited number of business consultations (marketing, Law, HR, IT, Finance, etc.), lawsuit protection, websites, web hosting, debt collection, contract review, discounts on other services, etc.

And you'd get all of that for about what you are going to pay an attorney to do the paperwork.

All have their pros and cons. Good luck.
