Not only is a blog a great way to create community through the comments, but it's dynamic content that is always changing which Google LOVES. Great for search engine ranking. I happen to prefer Wordpress and the functionality plus all the amazing plug-ins available make it a very powerful platform. I utilize the Notes feature on Facebook to import all my blog entries. This allows my content to show up in the News Feed for others which is a great way to build visibility. I also use the Networked Blogs app there to promote my blog and add readers. Twitter of course is a great way to (sparingly) let others know about new blog posts. I like the Twitter Tools plug-in for Wordpress which feeds your latest Tweets into the sidebar of your blog. Lastly, FriendFeed is really useful and I don't think a lot of people realize that yet. I like to share my blog posts using the "Share" feature of Google Reader which feeds them into my FriendFeed stream.
