You have to study more about link building techniques.. Try to do some article submission or forum signature campaign and more...

Where is the server located? Does its IP address indicate it's in the UK or India?

What is the TLD of the site? Is it a .com, or is it a .co.uk or a .co.in?

Do you have UK and Indian pages linking to yours?

If you want to rank well in the regional searches where there's any sort of competition, you generally have to either be hosted on a server located in that region, or you have to have a TLD that "belongs" to that region, or both.

Beyond that, it's helpful to have other "local" pages linking to yours, as this is yet a further indicator to Google that your site is applicable to that region.

Thanks for providing authentic information. This mean that I would have to get backlinks from .co.uk sites, the extension of the website needs to be co.uk and TLD should be located in the UK. But what if I want to rank in both co.uk and .co.in??

Dear acwebguru,
Could you please let me know, what geolocation you have set in your Google webmaster account for your website.

Yes, Like "torka" said, if you want to rank well in the regional SERP results it is important that your domain TLD be of the same regional registry you are targeting (".co.uk" for UK search engines and ".co.in" or ".in" for India SERPs of Google) and you should get a good number of the relevant quality links from the same regional TLD sites.

Also, I believe, the location of where your servers are hosted makes some difference. But, I think, I can't give it much importance. If your site deals with UK news, get an hosting account where the servers are hosted in UK and if your site is about India, host the site with a web hosting company that has their servers in India.

You need to get links from those country's websites.

I think Geo-Targeting will be the answer to your problem. You can post classified ads with links in different classified ads sites especially in India and UK. You can also do online group posting to advertise your website in those country and at the same time, you can also build links.

BTW, I suggest that you should organize your meta data (meta description, title and keywords) first before doing those off-page optimization techniques. I mean, for example. Your site is about selling shoes in India or UK. You can put this at your meta title.
<meta content='Inexpensive Shoes in India - Nameofthesite' name='title'/>

^In that way, you can easily provide your visitors about what's the content of your web page and at the same time... your key phrase "Inexpensive shoes" are included and the word "India" in your meta title can also help you to gain high rankings in when users type "shoes that are inexpensive in India" or if users search at google.com.in for "inexpensive shoes". Hope it helps.

if you optimize site for .com then it will rank well for .co.uk but not the other way round. if you are targeting UK then you will definitely rank well on .co.uk provided you have done good SEO
