Question How To Better Up PPC Google Adsense

Hello everyone,

I have 2 kinds of advertisements running on my website: "personal ones" (people who directly come to us to put an ad on) and Google Adsense.

The website is now 2 months old, and AdSense only brought about $3! What can I do to up those numbers?

This is what I found out so far as apparently being important:
- placement on the page (see Adsense Placement). Unfortunately my website layout puts the ads on the right side column, which apparently is not great.
- targeting of content. I read that I could do section targeting for Google in my page html (see Section Targeting). Does this do any good?

Is there anything else I can do, without changing the whole layout of my website?

Also before using Adsense, we used Rubicon. Anybody heard of it? At the time it didn't seem to be good for us, as it would put really random ads, but once we replaced it with Adsense, it got better.

Thank you

Hello, bottom line regarding earnings is you are going to make the most amount of money by making your ads as prominent as possible and blending them with the look of your site. Moving the ads from the bottom right column to above or below your main content at the top is going to make the biggest difference.

Your ads use the current default adsense colors (blue/green). Changing the ads to look like the other links on your site (for example maroon ad links) may make a small difference, but overall probably the main issue is placement.

You may also want to consider using link units instead of ads, if the space ads will take being more prominent is a concern.

Personally, I would use a rectangle ad inline with your content. See this url for an example.

Thank you for your reply.

I changed the colors of the Adsense ads, to match my website's color theme. I will look into possible new placement as well. I'm not quite convinced by integrating the ad into our text, but I guess that would be one of the best placement.

I increased my adsense earnings considerably by adding link ads in addition to the regular box ads.

I've had success with link units as well, if you are concerned about ads in your text the link units can be used to take up minimal space while still providing ad targeting. The keyword phrases in your link units can also be a good place to consider researching further keywords to target with seo based on my experiences.

In your case, danceplug, I would take the border off the ad display in the right column then add a link unit with links that blend with the design of your site right above the header or below within/after the first paragraph. See example layouts for link units here.

Realize there is not one right answer, and others experiences may be helpful but the only way to truly know with your site is to test, test, test. Adsense makes this fairly easy, but using their channel functionality. If you are not familiar with channels, look into using and let us know if you have questions. make one change, test results, make one change, test and compare, etc. Keep doing this until you see improvement in the click thru rate. The more you test, the more likely you will have good results and for those changes that don't improve things you can always revert back.

Also consider which pages of yours are the most popular and maybe only put ads at the top on those versus all pages

Another way to increase your adsense earnings for standard units is to use one of the yield optimization companies out there like Rubicon Project, YieldBuild or Pubmatic. AdSense doesn't always need to be the answer.

Are you allowed to change the color of the ad or the colors around it? Maybe something like that would draw more attention to it.
