Default Do You Think Salespeople Tend To Talk Too Much?

Do you think salespeople, as a group, tend to talk too much? Take the salespeople talk poll, then come back to this thread and share your thoughts.

I think the whole theory is if we hear the entire sales pitch, even if we don't want to at the time, we're more likely to buy or if we are buying we're more likely to upgraded etc, what we're already willing to spend. I doubt that very many sales people would continue this tactic if it wasn't producing results though.

Most salespeople do make this mistake, rather than a more consultative approach - asking questions, listening and then offering solutions when appropriate.

A great salesperson gathers all the information by listening more and talk a lot less. This salesperson will do very little talking except for the period of question-asking to find out what the customer wants.

Poor salespeople speak way too much. Smart ones listen, try to understand the customer, probe for unarticulated needs and then offer up value - NOT a sales pitch!

Good points. The one thing I've learned over the years is that if you can get a prospect talking, they'll tell you what they want.

I never like a meeting where you get the prospect who wants you to do all the talking. One-way communication is terrible.

The one lesson I have learned since starting a business is that I am not an SEO or a Web Designer but a sales person first and foremost.
