Default Home Based Businesses - Wave Of The Future?

I read an interesting article about home based businesses - and whether they are temporary situations or not - and wanted to bring it over here to the forum for discussion.

I think home based businesses and work from home situations are a sign of the times - not a temporary passing fad or stepping stone types of situations. And it seems that a recent survey conducted by Council of Smaller Enterprises and discussed in the article agrees:

Quote:
Of the home-based business owners surveyed, 70% had operated from home for more than 5 years, and 30% had been running a business from home for more than 15 years.
I'm curious. 1.) How many of you are working from home? 2.) How long have you been doing so?

I'm going on 3 years now myself . . .

Interesting post.

1) Me and my sister has been working from home as Link Builders, Data Entry, Typist, Virtual Assistant and Online Voice over talent.
2) We've been working at our home for more than 2 years now.

SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) businesses are an important segment of small business.

For the most part, the web as a communication medium lets many smart business owners to provide a product or service without leaving their homes, and without the overhead of traditional businesses.

I started a part-time home-based business (when I was still a university student) about two years ago. As soon as I graduated, I was able to move into business full-time. This is a huge advantage of a home-based business—you can start part-time and gradually become a full-time business owner.

I think home based businesses/jobs are here to stay. With the exception of teachers, fire fighters, police, maintenance workers, gardeners, etc, I think more and more people will be working from home, or running a business in the coming years. Though the cost of fuel is down for the time being and people can afford to fill their tanks again, we must still conserve energy. More and more parents are finding ways to be home with their children at least part-time, even if they need to hire an assistant. With the economy and rising unemployment rate, I think more and more people will at least try their hands at entrepreneurship.

I have been working from home for about 4 years now and I can't imagine going back into the workforce.

Ok, depressing thought, better get back to work (at home!).

Default Working from home

I have been working from home since 1990 and can't image a set routine. My husband has worked from his home based office since 1981 except for about 3-1/2 years.

Default Home based business

Hi
Here we have some nice and interesting posts by friends.
I am also working from home for a long time. The home businesses are definitely here to stay. I strongly think that with every passing minute, these home businesses are increasing and this expansion will continue to grow.

What do you say?

Regards

I really think home based businesses are here to stay. And with the current state of the economy and the increasing unemployment rate, you're sure to see more and more people trying their hand at entrepreneurship, operating home based businesses and earning income in work-from-home employment.
