I agree that getting found online is one of the top things you should be doing, but I want to tell you that you should still be building a list of new and old customers.
1. If you have a list of customers contact them and let them know about your new services.
2. A good press release is worth it's weight in gold.
3. Contact your local newspaper and if your product is interesting enough you might be able to get some free press about it if your product or services saves people money or some technical breakthru.
4. the power of networking. Go to where your target market is and display your wares.
5. Find out what your competitors are doing and copy them.

These methods work hand in hand with your online stuff?
Hope that helps

I wanted to market my business in a 25 mile radius area of my residence.

Yahoo and Google Listing is Free of charge, but it must be verified I think via snail mail. The mail includes the PIN for you to activate your listing. It's Good because the user can search your store online on a Map including your website and all other contact information. Which will really help you to have a potential client for your website. In targeting your market with the Help of SEO, it do well for the website to increase it's traffic, backlinks, keyword ranking and etc.

My take on this is that you get in touch with the local chamber of commerce. Try to see if they have newsletters where you can advertise or even local churches may have one. Of course, don't forget the local paper. Try also something like a cable company where they do ads on their main channel.

Another possibilities: Sponsor a local concert. Visit local radio programs. Have a party or something. There are a lot of things you can beside the internet media.

For internet ads, I would suggest an ad on a local website featuring your city.

Create a great landing page. Make sure it sells. An ad is useless when a prospect visits your site and it does not sell at all.

I wish you well.

Honestly, for a small business like yours I would start with the free stuff first. Social Media, a simple website and then move on from there. But if you have the budget to hire an SEO contractor to start your SEO campaigh, then that's good but if not do not worry it's workable.

If it's strictly local, do not hire an SEO company. You can do it yourself, especially if you're only looking to link for a couple local keywords.

SEO would not be worth the money...

I agree with Big Squid. If you're only looking for promotions, social networking and social media sites will be effective. You can let people know about your business. If you want to go more detailed with marketing strategies, that's when you can think about SEO.

Hey there, I believe that you have to use the yellowpages to keep your business up to date in the advertising side. Either that or rank for a keyword with your location in it which some marketers do.

Default Local Online Marketing Tricks

Since you have a fairly small geographic region to deal with this should not be to tough.

  1. Create content for your website that relates (long tail keywords including geographic identifiers) to all those geographic regions within your target. This should be atleast 10-20 different geographic locations.
  2. Then you should keep a project blog on wordpress or blogger (not public) that will mention these locations as you complete projects in. Have the feed integrated into these 10-20 pages. This will give you another key to having a website that has changing content (ahhhhhhh).
  3. Add projects regularly with the geographic identifiers-Add projects regularly with the geographic identifiers-Add projects regularly with the geographic identifiers-Add projects regularly with the geographic identifiers-Add projects regularly with the geographic identifiers

You will have great success with local organic keyword placement

*********** before you build these pages ***********
Make sure your website answers your audiences questions. Think about why they have come to your website. Help them help themselves

then....

ASK FOR THE SALE...

PROVIDE A CLEAR CALL TO ACTION!
