Default Recommendation For Billing Software

Hi guys,

Need some recommendations for new small business billing software. I have been limping by with an OLD, OLD version of Quick Book Pro for far too long. The version is so old it does not even qualify for an upgrade. Some features I have to have:

1. A timer to track hourly billing
2. The ability to bill by projects as well
3. Printing invoices to pdf
4. Hopefully can be used in connection w/online banking

Needless to say, small business = small budget.

Thanks!

Rather than new software why not just update?

QuickBooks Premier will do everything that you want and much more.

You will be able to upgrade and retain all of the information that you now have without the need of starting over with a new system.

I do not know of a more user friendly way to go.

Tom

Thanks Tom! I think you missed my comment that my quick books pro is too old to qualify for an upgrade though. Already tried that.

Feel free to contact me off line if you want as I have several progressions of older QuickBooks software. I have been saving them for a rainy day or perhaps a situation like this. I first started using QuickBooks as a DOS version and have gone from QuickBooks to QuickBooks Pro to my current QuickBooks Premier 2007.

It is likely that I will have the missing link so to speak that would allow you to do progressive updates until you get current.

Let me know.

Tom

Thanks Tom! Let me take a look at my version and check out the QuickBooks site again (it's been awhile) and I'll be in touch. There were a couple of problems that I have w/the old version that I am hoping have been addressed by now - can't imagine they haven't.

For instance, on projects terms are 1/2 down and 1/2 when project is completed. But if I bill for the entire project amount and indicate that 1/2 is due as a deposit, when I bill the balance I can only do so via statement. If it take 60 days to complete the site, the statment reads "60 days past due". The only work around is to send the initial invoice at 1/2 the amount and then a second invoice at 1/2 the amount. When printing reports, this appears to be two separate projects instead of one.

Anyway, thank again for your help. I'll be in touch.
Kim

Are you running a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution? The workflow you are requesting can be done in most CRM and ERPs. I'm always an advocate for scaling back on the number of applications companies use. If you do have CRM or ERP, I'd say its time to make them work to their full potential. If you're not ready for one, consider a newer version of Quickbooks. They've made serious strides since the caveman days.

Don't need anything that extensive, just time keeping, invoicing, and income/expense reports for end of year taxes. Has anyone used Peachtree?

.Its a popular full featured small business accounting program. Available in Basic, Online, Pro, and Premier editions the 2010 Pro and Premier versions of QuickBooks have new features to make the program easier to use and save time and money.
