Default Title::blocked

Hola Folks

Sorry I haven't spoken in a while, life has been rather hectic here in sunny Spain

I saw a new item when viewing a page source today of one of my client's and I was wondering if anyone here has seen this before and if you could help me understand what it means

We were looking at an article that we have placed on another website and they have 2 links at the bottom of the article.

This said:
title::blocked

I have never come across this before, does this mean it is a nofollow link or something else entirely?

Thanks peeps

Hasta Pronto!

This is what I found...

Quote:
That is an attempt to stop the destination address of the link from being displayed when someone moves their mouse over the link. If it works then the person can't tell of the link is taking them to the real site or a spoofed copy intended to steal information or money from them. Most modern browsers still display the destination address where this is used and so it only works with old insecure browsers.
This is a new one to me too!

Glad I am not the only one to have seen this - I was very confused when this was put in front of me by a client the other day

The URL is:
http://www.whatmortgage.co.uk/articl...ce-228438.html

The link is for OwnerInvest.com and we took over this article on their website, what mortgage do try not to lean towards certain clients or favour them in any way.

Thanks for your help guys

This might help also - taken from the source code on whatmortgage

<p><font face="Arial" size="4"><a title="blocked::http://www.ownerinvest.com/?oicp=22" href="http://www.ownerinvest.com/?oicp=22">Click here for further details on the latest buy to let products and hotel room investments from Owner Invest</a></font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="4">&nbsp;</font></p>

And Logan, before you say it - yes I have told them about "click here" and asked them to remove and replace with the keywords we are targeting

However, if this is blocked, do I still need to worry about what my link says - in other words, if it is a nofollow link or a blocked link do the engines even read what my link text actually says so therefore does it matter if we target keywords or not?

From what I read it didn't sound like the link was being blocked, just the pop-up text that shows the url when you mouse over the link.

I agree Kim. I would consider it as regular link text in the case of the block. I believe that is probably browser specific and not accepted as a standard.

With that block code, I would assume link text still plays the role you are used to.

Regarding the nofollow command, I think that may deserve some different consideration because it is a standard accepted by the major search engines. I don't know if they are considering link text with a nofollow for sure, but would tend to assume they don't for the linking factor but maybe that text still plays a role for that page itself.

Remember, mix things up when working in keywords. Do as usually do and ... (a) with block do as you normally would (b) with nofollow use it as an opportunity to keep things natural/mixed up a bit

my two cents

According to the code posted, that link isn't nofollowed. Plus, the "href" part points directly to ownerinvest.com. That's the part the SE will index and follow. Google doesn't even index what's in the "title" attribute, so you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks Torka

I have scheduled the anchor text change as well and hopefully that will be implemented fairly shortly
