Default New Article - How to Hire a Professional SEO Part 1

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/laycock/004184.html

Some Snippets:

"As with most other major purchases or contracts, a basic understanding of what SEO entails can provide you with a solid stepping stone to build a great relationship with a professional search engine marketing specialist."

"Because professional search engine optimization is still an emerging form of marketing, there really isn't a set standard of qualifications that you should look for when hiring a professional. Even within the bounds of generally accepted best practice guidelines, there are professionals with a wide range of experience and abilities and no guarantees of results."

Good article Jen. I think when clients, or potential clients have SEO knowledge it can be a two edged sword. THEY need the knowledge in order to know how to select an SEO that won't jack them up, but if they get too much knowledge they think they know how it should be done.

I'm going through something similar right now with a past client who left us a couple of years ago and has recently come back for more optimization. They remember how it WAS done back then and can't understand why we are not doing it the same now. "What! Only a few keyword per page?!!!!"

Sigh. But all in all, if they know enough about SEO then they'll know a good deal when the see one, as opposed to cheap optimization services that don't perform.
