Default Recommended Copywriting Resources

Wanted to share several great Copywriting resources I've discovered. The first two are free; the third set me back $5,000 but was worth every penny:

1. Clayton Makepeace's "The Total Package". Well over 1,000 pages of back issues are offered for free on Clayton's website. Clayton is currently one of the highest paid copywriters in the world, and I have found his work to be well worth studying. Search for "Makepeace Total Package"

2. "Info Marketing Blog". This site offers some very hard to find ads by many of the best known names in copywriting including Gene Schwartz, Mel Martin and others. Search for "Info Marketing Blog".

3. The Bencivenga 100 Seminar DVDs. The opportunity to study under the legendary Gary Bencivenga, perhaps the most successful direct-response copywriter of all time, was one I could not pass up. Yes, $5,000 is alot of money to pay for a set of DVDs and a seminar transcript. However, in those materials Bencivenga reveals what $1,000,000,000 (one Billion dollars) worth of scientific advertising taught him. This set of DVDs is one of my most treasured direct-response educational investments, and well worth the price paid. The sales letter alone for the DVDs is very worthwhile to print out and study (over 60 pages long!). Search for "Bencivenga 100 Seminar DVDs".

If you can suggest other truly outstanding copywriting resources, I would appreciate hearing your recommendations as well.

Yeah, Clayton's stuff is great. Especially Daniel Levis' segments (he usually contributes once a week or so).

"The Copywriter's Handbook" by Bob Bly is also terrific.

Another one is "Web Copy That Sells" by Maria Veloso. Although some of the tactics are a bit outdated (the book's from 2002 I think), the strategies she covers are great, including how to sell using informational style copy on the web. Very underrated book, IMO.

Happy writing.

One site I've found useful is copyblogger.com

He specifically addresses strategies that are useful for effective web communication.
