Default Feedback on New Business Name

Hi all- I would love to hear your feedback on a potential business name I am thinking of using. I will be publishing direct mail coupon magazines and internet advertising sites that are geared to local communities. While each site would be a different domain name as well as the magazines, I am thinking of using "Red Zone Publications" as business name. Any feedback if this might have a negative connotation. Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum

Red signifies danger, and redzone signifies a problem to me. Sorry.

Green Zone is far more friendly as green is our friend, green is good to go.

have to agree with OWG -

even if you ignore the negative connotations of 'red zone', it still doesn't sound like a particularly good business name.... have a rethink and get creative,.... or do the old classic of putting a colour with a fruit!!!! (NB... don't do this, it is a joke - they sound aweful)

Thanks for the feedback so far. I agree with association with red and the impression that it has. What I do like about the name (sports nut here) is the association of winning. This is the area that can make it or break it in football, and to a large degree in business. What happens in critical situations and how a business has a plan to succeed is critical to overall success. Thanks again for your honest feedback, I look forward to hearing from others.

Okay I know people here disagree with me about this, but I think you should use keywords in your name. You will never have enough money to brand something abstract... so make your business name (and the associated URL) work for you. E.g.,

direct mail coupon magazines
direct mail coupons
money saving coupons
coupon advertising

Etc.

But what do I know. I'm just an accountant.

I watch my fair share of football, and I didn't 'catch' that association until you mentioned it in your subsequent post. My own perception of red zone in football has more of a connotation with tough defense - not always a winning scenario - to me.

Default Name

I wouldn't worry too much about your name as a company always becomes the name and I don't think the name of a business is down to how successful it is.

We used to have a company called Gastro S.L. - awful name really but the company was successful and we became the name Gastro after working with it for so long.

My Father's company is called Scorpion - means nothing relative to what he does (Chauffeur) but he is known as the Scorpion now and the business continues to grow

Number 6 gives good advise. But if you are thinking about branding, "Red Zone Publications" dosen't roll off the tongue.

How about R ZEE P or some form of this? You can still make it clear that it relates to Red Zone Publications in your copy.

Good Luck
Researcher.

Nothing wrong with Red if used just right.
