Default Twitter - Useful Or Passing Fad

So far I like Twitter. I initially had my reservations but created a profile at any rate simply to secure the branding of my name and company.

While I don't post everything I am doing at any given time, I have found it useful to get stories "dugg" at Digg or bookmarked at other social media sites. I have also found it to be another way to connect to people I already know as well as meet new people and get a quick glimpse into what is going on in their daily lives. Finally it has driven a small amount of traffic to my site.

How about you? Anyone else using Twitter yet? Love it? Hate it? I know Matt McGee has an opinion on this. Maybe he will chime in here.

I have to admit I used it a lot about 2 months ago. But I found that I simply didn't have the time and ended up not using my account in some time.

Love the idea, just don't have the time.

I signed up a month or so ago but haven't done much else on my end.

I've seen a couple clever ways companies or people use Twitter though.

Ed Kohler and Co. at the Technology Evangelist uses Twitter to send podcast updates and related items.

There's something in the Mpls/St. Paul area called the Least Dangerous Game. Basically, it's a high tech version of hide-and-seek for big kids with gadgets. Kind of addicting too. It would be cool to see a business do something similar. Maybe it could be a case for some good viral marketing?

I signed up for an account and frankly, besides light entertainment between close friends and populating blogs with passing thoughts, I have not yet discovered the usefulness of sending a sms message to inform people what I am doing.

I would be very interested if anyone has used twitter in a customer relationship, or to increase productivity of a sales force, for example.

I have no opinion yet; except that it's fun to use.

I've not used it and, frankly, can't imagine starting. I don't have time in my day to post "what I'm doing now", or to read what other people are doing at the moment either.

I work.

Passing fad, and a stupid one at that.

I blogged on this yesterday.

Sorry...while I can see unique ways to market through it, I just find it absolutely ridiculous that anyone cares that someone else "saw some guy that I think used to be famous while walking through the upper east side" or "want mcDonalds, but the line is just sooooooooooooooooooooo long!"

I'm a grump I guess.

It's cute, but not as efficient as text messaging. It's kind of like a reality show ... which could explain why it's been getting any press at all. I agree with Jenn on this one. I could be persuaded to view this differently, David, if those twitter visitors converted ... ?

I'm finding it to be really slow - as in takes forever to open, update, switch to other people etc.

I quipped once that Twitter reminded me of the white board on my dorm room door - and no one paid attention to that thing either....
