there should be a topic forum that is specific for advertizing ones business, and if members want to go to that forum and check it out, then let them. if they don't want to, they don't have to. and just make it so that is the only forum they can advertize on...

Welcome aboard rbookwise
We are open to the suggestion, and I follow your logic. As background, there are a couple forum categories that we will consider someone sharing their info - this is specific to only the tradeshow, seminars, webinars category along with freelinks (free offers) and help wanted though.
While we will consider adding a forum like you describe down the road, here is the crux of the issue on our end why it can't be done immediately. With a forum category like you describe, we would not want those threads to be populated within our RSS Feed or the Today's post threads. We don't have an easy way to exclude threads from those - the crux - so the concern is the feeds could become dominated by the promotional threads. We will try to figure out a way to exclude them down the road and keep it in consideration for now.
Outside of that, we are also working on a new directory for the website and community for down the road. This will allow members to submit their business listings so we can all share our business(es) together. Specifically we also have plans in place to add custom programming so forum members listings are displayed at the top of the directory's pages.
Hope that helps you understand where we run into issues with "if they don't want to, they don't have to" and some of the things we do have in the works that are related.
