Many telemarketing companies today are still conservative. Either they're too scared to try something new or just plain lazy.

Unwantes sales calls often disappoints the recipients.
Not knowing their market or target customers
Not aware of their competitors
Lack of patience
Missing Stratergy
High Price value.

Asking the prospect some non personal questions can warm them up. Also you can learn what interests prospects.
