So the consensus seems to be - stick with the most popular social media sites. And it makes sense to do that, because google probably has the same mindset.

Also it can be prudent to hop on board any relatively new social sites. They tend to be more lenient to allowing backlinks and other SEO techniques as the sites are mostly trying to build a userbase. They don't care about spam, they want user registrations for their business numbers.

Those sites can be a goldmine, like pinterest was and tumblr.

Eventually there will probably be new social media sites. However it is going to take a lot for Facebook to lose the advantage it has gained in the past.

It will be interesting to see how well pinterest does.

Every social media is effective. You should know how to utilize it. I'd prefer Facebook, Twitter and Google +.

Facebook is a little scary. Companies can now take you information from in store purchases and market to you on Facebook.

Have you ever seen the show 'Person of Interest"?

Raytheon a defense contractor has developed a program that collects your information on Facebook and predict if you are a terrorist and your movement.

No I haven't seen the show, But I'll definitely watch it. Could you tell me more about it, how did he trace the account, took out the info and proved that the person is a terrorist.
