Question Do I Need To Purchase Mailing List?

Hi,

I want to try email marketing, but I do not have a long mail list now. Some sites sell opt-in mailing list. Should I purchase it?

If I send newsletters to such list, will it cause any problem?

Thanks,

Lily

Lily,

Typically the email lists you can buy are complete garbage and haven't opted in to have you email them something, so in a sense you could still be accused of spamming.

Never email a list unless it is your own.

Something you could do, is have someone that already owns a list that the people may have an interest in your product send an email for you.

You'll probably have to offer a percentage of any sales to that person, but they'll be sales you probably wouldn't have received any other way.

Also, if you do this, add the people that visit your website to your own list. It's a fast way to build a good responsive list.

I don't know the market or if this is applicable to what you might have in mind for a market.

But you can find lists from Direct marketing News and you might want to sign up for their free news letter/magazine - http://www.dmnews.com/

I have bought different list from Melisa data and infousa also

DavidHawke makes a great point - those lists are garbage, and teaming up with another business who has an email list (with permission to email them) of people who are more likely to have an interest in what you're offering is a great way to go. Many companies offer the owners of the database a per booking royalty, normally between 10 and 20 percent.

Default buying of insurance leads

Hey I went through the posts regarding buying of insurance leads online. I tried some sites who charged heavily. They have added lot of hidden costs. Can anyone suggest me a good site, where I can buy bulk Insurance leads at a lesser cost with good quality?

Try infoUSA. You may be able to get your lead list free. If you haven't heard on it or are unsure how to use it, here is a video that shows the database and what you'll find there. Please leave a comment and click the facebook "like" button.

On this same topic of list building (which is something I'm researching, too)... is there any validity in working with an online partner to publish a weekly newsletter and sharing the list? Would that be feasible?

Assuming, of course that you both target the same audience yet offer non-competing products.

I'd love to hear thoughts on this.

Dee,

There is a huge amount of validity to that approach. It is best for you if you find (and work with) someone that has a list already. If neither of you has a list you may as well do it yourself, unless there is another advantage point you see to sharing the list. Possibly sharing the duties of generating the content?

Other than that, find someone that has a list, offer them a commission on anything you sell to their list. Make sure when you do this, to be building your own list from those people. That way next time you don't have to share the commissions.

Hope that helps.

I'd be glad to talk to you further on the subject if you'd like.

To your success,
David

Actually, the idea of sharing the workload is appealing to me as well.

I'm a full-time writer/ghostwriter so the time I have to spend on my own business is limited. That's one reason I thought that working with someone else might be a good idea. But I can see that promoting to someone else's list makes sense, too.

Thanks, David! I appreciate your input.

Dee

i believe that this is not ethical at all unless the owners of the addresses have opted or paid to receive email. otherwise, i would personally not do that as nobody likes spam. However, if they are legitimate sources, then try to make your advertisement less wordy and catchy as these people are likely to subscribe to a lot of paid advertisement services
