Default Hosting Question For The Experts

Will using a hosting company with servers outside the US hurt your Google ranking in the SERP's? (in this case.. Canada)

Another No from me.

I have noticed though, that if you purchase a domain name over seas and hide your details and location (godaddy allows you to do this) then the search engine will refer to the registrars location.

Not a hosting issue, but in the same ball park.

I've also never seen the geo location of a webhost influence the search engine rankings one way or another. If the hostís servers are up and down a lot I can see this having an influence.

If there was even the smallest hint that this was the case you would see in influx to the countries hosting providers that got better rank. Google(and other search engines) would never do this. Domains on the other hand do play a roll, .co.uk, .ca etc...pull better rank in their countries.

Keep your dollars in the US. We need all we can get right now.

I'm not suggesting you host with me. Do it anywhere, but keep the money here.

Pete, I have a US hosting service that I am moving Restore-A-Deck to. They host my other websites already. The task of the shopping cart has turned a bit ugly so things have gotten very delayed. In the interim I am forced to stay where I am which is an absolute terrible service. When I forrayed into e-commerce a few years ago I knew nothing and the shopping cart site I am using looked good for a newbie like me. I have outgrown its usefulness on so many fronts.

The reason I asked this question was because I rock Yahoo with number 1,2,3 and rankings for everything pertaining to deck cleaning, staining or maintenance. But after 3500 relevant inlinks, blog postings, rewriting title after title, having a 2+ year old domain, articles and everything else.. I am stagnant on good ole Google. I was wondering if the domain server had anything to do with it. I've rewritten the home page and have yet to get it indexed. My previous copy was too keyword stuffed (which yahoo seems to like) I'll see what happens from here. I have a couple of months before things get really cranking again.

PS: You know something is wrong when one of your blogs outranks your website.

As far as I am aware, the location of the server shouldn't matter. Does anyone else know if this is true if you have optimized your page for a local area?

No, It won't hurt but hosting would help depending on your targeted country. Or you can also improved SERP if you would link to related sites locally. If you target specific location or country to market your site.
