Default Creating Membership or Subscription Sites

I'll use this thread to list any services or software I run across that allow you to set up a members-only area on your site. If you know of any, feel free to add to the list.

Groundbreak Membership Manager
http://www.groundbreak.com/

Description:
The groundbreak.com membership manager is a fully featured tool that automates the process of password protecting content on your website. The script allows for multiple membership areas, it has a unique "cash-in" code feature that allows you to sell bulk memberships (to resellers, etc...), and there is also a built in Unix log analyzer which will help you monitor the membership areas and help stop fraud.

aMember Professional
http://membership.cgi-central.net/scripts/amember/

Description:
aMember is a flexible membership and subscription management PHP script. It has support for PayPal, BeanStream, 2Checkout, NoChex, VeriSign PayFlow, Authorize.Net, PaySystems, Probilling, Multicards, E-Gold and Clickbank payment systems and allows you to setup paid-membership areas on your site. It can also be used without any payment system - you can manage users manually. aMember Pro also supports integration plugins to link with third-party scripts databases (like vBulletin, Invision Board, etc). aMember is a perfect membership software for selling digital subscriptions and downloads, and it can be used for other applications as well.

Is it possible to perform subscription management, payments and etc., on one web site yet host the actual content on a second or even third site?

If possible, how could the content be protected from unauthorized access on the second and/or third site?

Seems most of the software is designed to operate from the same server the content resides......and my application just won't fit that model.

It's either as simple as re-directing the user after authorization I suppose or extremely complicated...........

Thanks in advance,

Bluemoon

Really easy .... It is possible, but there may be things you have to address. For example, one approach would be I make my purchase and receive a username/password I can use at an alternative site. That would work basically as you describe although not with a redirect. The user just needs to login - which is an extra step you/or user may not want.

Extremely complicated .... One problem I run into is that a cookie (what keeps the user logged in) can't ... easily ... go from one domain to another. They are exclusive to the domain and can't crossover. So when a user does something on one site, they need to login (create cookie) to use another site. You could do more extensive programming to work around this and avoid making the user login at each domain that they did not register/pay at.
