At this stage in the game, I would only use a .com.
Some people might even think .co was a typo (on an advertisement) and correct it by using .com. It may not hurt so much if they are just following a link but I would not go that route personally.

A few years ago a company called ".CO Internet S.A.S." negotiated the administrative rights to the domain. They opened up registration to businesses and individuals around the world beginning in mid-2010.

Pros of .co: it's one keystroke less than .com. Some companies like Overstock.com (o.co) have used this to create "shortcut" domain names that link to their "regular" main website. Twitter uses the "t.co" domain for its link-shortening service. If you can still get a short domain name related to your business, this might be handy.

Cons of .co: people may accidentally slide right on through and type .com by mistake. While there were over 1 million domains registered with .co as of June 2011, there are still many more .com sites than .co, and people may overlook that the last "m" is missing. Unless you have both the .co and .com versions of your domain, it's possible folks may try to find your site and not get there.

Other than that, though, there's not much I can think of in terms of pros/cons. Anything specific you were concerned about?

Thank you for such information torka. I'm seriously bothered also with this. Again, thanks.

To set people straight, I just want to say the domain extension does not matter in terms of SEO. Google gives no preference to .com over .net .org .co etc.

I am outranking .com's with .info, .co, .biz... if you know what you're doing you will be fine.

I also want to expand on this... and say that the only true difference and negative, about a .co or any domain name aside from a .com, is that the user experience is effected. It effects branding with the website, but if all you care about is search engine traffic then you will be fine!

I think with Overstock it may have had as much to do with the issue that was reported in the Nytimes. Aside of that all of the other points made here have been terrific.

Hi...

.COM would be the best choice. If you are planning to copyright or have a trademarked name then you should register it in other extensions like dot net dot co etc..

Thanks

I cant say whats better for SEO, though i do believe Google dont care.

Simply, everyone thinks of WEBSITE Dot Com.......so i reckon in every single regard, if you are getting the dot com, you are getting the url that people can and will remember the best.

The only remote exception may be charities and organisations that may use dot org, though i still think they need the dot com and use 301 to the dot org.

Based upon my thoughts, but not facts.
