Hey Duane!
Nice post. I agree with most of your article. However as conserns nofollow links, i think google does put some emphasis on these. There is someone who could not rank for a keyword no matter how many links he built for his site. However upon study of the links that his competition had to their site, he noticed a nofollow link. So when he added a nofollow link, he ranked number 1(name witheld:-)). So in the continuing back and forth about nofollow links, i do believe the only person who can tell you whether they have any importance is one of the staff members of google. However, i think they do carry some importance.

I'm not an expert, but if you only have dofollow links pointing to your site it's going to look a little unnatural to any search engine, most websites don't want to give away their hard earned link juice, so when you have none it's a little suspicious. I have also read that bing/yahoo! do count nofollow links, so they still have some value.

Great post by the way Duane that is not only an impressive number of backlinks, but also pages of unique content! Out of curiosity do you try to rank your new pages or does that just happen naturally when you have a large high ranking site that has unique content?

This thread was an interesting read, but I wonder about it's relevancy today (seeing as how it was started in 2007).

Yes links from related sites are worth much more even if their PA is 0 - 1.
Good tips, thank you..

Yes i agree with you that Buy links for traffic not for seo. But I am not sure how google tell if the links are bought? How google know that blogroll links is of low quality?

Hey Duane,

Thanks for sharing your success story, I'm always keen to hear about progress from fellow link and content marketing specialists and it sounds like you're doing a great job!

I wanted to ask about the nature of your business, specifically the website that you're referencing as the link building case study to ascertain whether the tactics you're deploying are transferable.

- Is the site b2b or b2c?
- Do you think the sector your website belongs to influence the success rate of the link building strategy?

My personal opinion is that not all sectors are equal, and that whilst some are link building gold (travel, health, lifestyle) others are tough to crack (insurance, employment, sport.

Thanks mate,
