A few stats for you,

I started blogging only 2 weeks ago and I have recieved 10 unique visits to my links within the blog. I update my blog every 2 days with infomation for my business members and also articles and informational material for the search engine people.

People can also leave feedback about content in the blog, which they can't do with newsletters or articles.

I am going to become a much more regular blogger in the future and plan to have many blogs on the go for more exposure. I reccommend you become a regular blogger

Mitch

Blogs are brilliant for getting targeted traffic to your website - take little time with BIG rewards!

Blogging is something I use in my arsenal.

Question Existing blog providers blogs are already SEOptimised

The blogs that already exist that allow you to use their services are already optimised.... yes?
So having your own blog (using an existing provider) means you get SEO for free, as it were.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

A blog is dynamic,
it is always in a state of change, content will always get injected into it
and maybe down track when you have enough links in and out on your blog, will then over take your web site organic ranking
Moreover, blogs are search engine friendly and you do not need anything just an account with blog providers. In most cases, these kinds of blogs are free of charge.

In the case of Blogger, they add every idea they can think of. Believe me, some of these are not good ideas! Blog description at the top of the page makes every post look the same. It is SO easy to add (too many) labels and hence duplicate your content => the supplementary index beckons.

If something is a really good idea, the pros will all be doing it, so check them out

Yeah, basically the benefits are:
1) having more google food
2) recently-updated content (the more frequently you update, the more frequently your site gets crawled by search engines as far as I can tell)
3) more and more content meaning more value for visitors to your site

You don't necessarily have to call it a "blog." The idea is just keep adding content to your site, everyday, no matter what.

For one of my clients we scrape the blog content and package it into an offline newsletter once a quarter.

Using a combination of media channels can improve the communication.

Another great model is emailing a weekly enews update with the leader for two or three articles that you post on your blog. This drives traffic to your site and they tend to move from the blog to the rest of your site again.

Several of my coworkers have blogs that talk about our company, and I think it's a great way to get your name out there!! Just because I feel that Websites don't always tell you everything you need to know.
