I would suggest article writing. Write about you bussines and let people know what you are offering. Find social sites related to your business and start promoting, answering questions....

Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs endow you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are compensated a commission.

And most importantly, don't forget to have a back link, this will make sure that they'll visit your site. Of cours, you should have your own site. Also creating your account on social networking sites will help you promote your business. Millions of users are there and you can be guaranteed on the results.

An SEO service did help me but I think it was kinda over-priced. Articles are good. Recently created a store on makatto.com I've gotten a decent amount of traffic there. Maybe worth a shot.

I agree, if you use correct keywords which EXACTLY describe what your potential clients want, then you will have many leads.
Avoid these:

You have received a lot of great tips here. I would also like to remind you to advertise you site offline also, especially if your looking for local traffic. A lot of people forget they can do this. Make sure your web address is on all of your marketing material. You can also add it to your customer's receipts, any shipping lables you may use, or just verbally remind your customers of your online presence. You could also add the address to any signs or company / personal vehicles you own. Anywhere you think someone may see it.

What type of business are you running, what are your types of customers you are trying to reach?

Being social will help bring you some links and exposure but you need a signature link, of course avoid being spammy!

Give us a link of your website so we can see the nature of your business, this would help answer your question much better

As it pertains to advertising and marketing on the internet, paid advertising is going to get the fastest results when you do it correctly. Let's take a look at using pay per click advertising to promote internet based business opportunities for more immediate results.

There are many ways to go about and promote your business. It includes forum postings with your URL in the signature, video marketing, article marketing, social networking portals, creating free pages, book marking and blog commenting.

Apart from that there are many other things as well but initially I would recommend you to stick with that.
