Default Computer Spring Cleaning

Well, Spring is here and what better time to make sure your computer is running as it should.

If you have noticed that your computer is running slower than it used to or that it virtually comes to a halt when doing things that should take but a moment, it is probably time to have it looked at. You can either do it yourself, or have a local PC technician come out and service it for you.

We tend to be very good about having car serviced every few thousand miles, but no thought is usually given to computer maintenance. Over time Windows and Internet temporary files can clutter the hard drive causing slower performance. Files on the hard drive also become fragmented over time making it slower for the machine to access them. Depending on the level of security on your computer, Viruses and Spyware can wreak havock and bring a computer to a grinding halt.

It is a good idea to regularly delete Windows and Internet temporary files, Defragment your hard drive, and ensure your Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software is up to date and performing as it should.

Regular computer maintenance will increase efficiency in the workplace and help ensure you are concentrating on your job (Which is all that much more important in Small Business) rather than the hourglass on your computer.

Good Luck!

Look for an Antivirus that consumes less memory. (like Avast)
Some anti-viruses will actually slow-down your PC because they'll do lots of stuff in the background.

If you want the same protection that top antiviruses can give you as well as it does not consume too much memory, I would personally recommend Nod32.

As for computer maintenance, would it be great to run defrag, remove temp files and etc in just one click? Try TuneUp Utilities.

Use Kaspersky Anti Virus 2009, it is a leading anti-virus software and Internet Security software solution for your home computer or business.

Also large files that you downloaded slow down virus scans and mess with some defrag programs efficiency so get rid of those (don't forget to empty your trash too) You can do a lot of cleanup on an XP machine by Clicking on the "My Computer Icon", right-clicking on your hard drive and clicking on the Disk Cleanup button on the general tab. this will give you lots of choice to remove unneeded files.

...or you can use a quality operating system that doesn't require defragging, anti-virus, and tune-ups.

I can certainly appreciate that last post about using a quality operating system that does not require tune-ups.

I hear wonderful things from many users of other operating systems, but for the time being, the majority of computer users on the planet use MS products and should be educated on keeping their systems in good working order until such time that other alternatives become more main stream in the business world.

Happy Computing!
