Hey guys,
I'd like to take a moment to share a piece of content that I created to help the industry understand the fundamentals of link building and content marketing.
The reason why I'm introducing this item is that the ROI is particularly impressive, having invested a modest budget and generated some big wins.
So, if you're just starting out in SEO or content marketing then reading about this self-initiated exercise could save you valuable time, money and resources.
About me
I work for a digital marketing agency in Sydney. One of our specialities is SEO, and my core focus area is the strategising of building and earning backlinks. One way I approach this challenge is to write briefs for creating content that will naturally attract links, rather than simply submitting a business profile to a directory or send out material for guest posting in blind faith. That's the big shift in mindset we all need to adopt.
Back to the fun stuff.
The item I produced is called the Periodic Table of Link Building and Acquisition. It's a visual guide to help marketers and content folk understand the variety of tactics that the industry recommends for acquiring backlinks. I included only those which I've practised myself, not the full spectrum. The intended outcome was to both build and earn backlinks to our website and generate brand awareness, referral traffic and social engagement too.
What about the results..?
High profile placements - The item was received for publishing in some of the major marketing and business sites on the web, including Smart Insights, Marketing Profs, Business2Community
Community sharing - The topic sparked multiple conversation threads on popular international sites like Quora and Reddit
Social sharing - Over 1,000 social actions across all major platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest
Web traffic - I was happy to see more than 1,500 sessions off the back of referral domains
Organic ranking - The item boosted my agency's web presence for terms relating to link building onto pages 2 and 3 of SERPs
Feel free to take a peak at
The Periodic Table of Link Building and Acquisition and send me any questions you have about link and content engagement strategy. I hope this short case study has been of use
