Default Means of traffic

Free methods of getting traffic are available but they take time and effort. Methods like forum and blog commenting, building popularity of forums is important for your comment to result in a visit. And it takes time to build reputation.Other methods include writing unique quality articles and submit them at appropriate sites online. Submit your website to Search Engines for indexing. You can plan and work out SEO yourselves.Submit your website to manually edited high PR directories. You can write a newsworthy press release regularly and submit them to high rated news site. Make use of Facebook, Twitter and Stumbleupon. This list is not exhaustive, it depends upon the website and its subject how traffic can be improved.Nonetheless above are some of the general tips.I hope it helps you get started.

Thanks I've read into guerilla marketing and it looks like a full-time job. I mean most things are webbased and really being seen here helps you be seen everywhere. Between forum-linking and blogging which ones have helped the most? Or is more like building an interconnecting network?

There are no shortcuts if you want to build a strong site. Guest blogging is very popular now - look for a high-quality blog in your industry/niche, with a good pagerank. Contact them with an idea of what you can write about that fits their type of blog. They will normally let you write a short bio at the end of your guest post with a backlink back to your site. This can provide some traffic back to you.

Elsoft is right.

It takes time to build up a highly-trafficked, quality site. My favorite way to increase traffic is through keyword research. Finding the information people are looking for that is related to your niche and then providing that information generates substantial traffic to a site. You determine this by researching keywords.

Additionally, I stay away from highly-competitive, overly saturated keywords, too. Instead, I look for keywords that are highly used but are not as popular with the competition. This gives me the opportunity to rank for the information, rather than jumping on the general keyword bandwagon. Doing so is almost a guarantee that your site will not be found.

It's an inner-connected marketing effort.

Quick List-
1). Facebook
2). Twitter
3). Forums (add link in your signature) (Always been a fast working, favorite of mine BUT you have to particpate in a relevant way).
4). Emails (Add link in your signature)
5). Fiverr (it isn't free, but it's a site where you can hire someone to do something for 5 bucks).
6). About Me page on eBay
7). Submit site to product related sites. For example when I started pocketknivesblog.com I did a search for submit knife site and found a couple sites realted to knives that allowed me to list my site.
8). YouTube (that can be very quick).
9). Blogs - take too long IMHO.
10). Write an ebook and give it away to website visitors!

I have always been suspicious of the signature links. Do you really see the bump in traffic after a couple of forum posts or is it something you see over time? I think I get where you are coming from in regards to participating in the right way

In my experiences with my three different websites, heading to the forums and participating has produced immediately. I now use Statcounter.com and can track where traffic comes from.

Once you have more relevant posts you have more opportunities for exposure.

I'd highly, highly recommend beatin' the drum of the forum boards!

Nothing is free!

You either pay for visits or you produce content and services that will earn you visits.

Time is money.
