Default I Need Product

I am in the process of starting a new online retail website, but I am finding it very difficult to find product; especially quality product. I have looked at the Chinese wholesale products just to find out that most of their items are replicas and infringe on the intellectual property laws here in the United States. Does anyone here have some lifetime experience here on how to overcome this hurdle.

What sorts of products are you looking to sell? "Online retail" is a pretty broad category.

Products from China do offer greater profit margins, but I would stay away from that. There are plenty of good products coming out of China, but I have tried sourcing things from there with little luck. I have found that once you add shipping it can be hard to get a great deal, unless you're buying a full carton or more.

My sentiments exactly, however I was able to get my hands on some great timberland and Jersey replicas for myself. Nonetheless, I use a service called Worldwide brands for most of the things I that I sell right now, but I am always looking for other alternatives.

Default Have you?

Have you considered niche' products? I am from South Africa and have a similar problem. My partner and I are in the process of looking at webtrading, but we have come accreoss amillion product that is sold on a million sites. We are now considering looking at specialised goods from the USA, but our exchange rate is hampering the process.

What types of products are you looking for? Do you want to retail wholesale or dropship? Generally, wholesale products are cheaper, but the process of dropshipping is easier. I have a website (link in my signature) with reviews on different online product sources and companies, if you want to take a look at that. It could help you generate some ideas.

Back when I owned a retail store we would find all of our product vendors at retail shows. Almost all vendors were happy to drop-ship for our e-commerce site too.

The thing that I liked best about product shows is you're able to get an up-close and personal look at merchandise so you know what you're getting before you buy it or sell it.

I'm not sure where you're located, but there are product shows throughout the year all over the US.

I think your focus should on giving value to your customers... find products that are hard to find but in good demand. your profit margin is going to come from the "value-add" you provide... it might be hard work but everyone else is already selling the easy stuff ,,, usually for low margins.

realdough, replicas are fakes and counterfeit goods that can get you locked up, among other things.

There are a number of Chinese products that are Unbranded and make no claim to be anything except what they are - legal products similar to brand name items. They have no trademark or intellectual property violations and are perfectly legal to be sold anywhere worldwide.

They are referred to as "White Box Goods", since they come with no brand name at all, or "Generic" where they may have some sort of meaningless label that is not an attempt to look like a name brand, or in come cases "Private Label" where a larger operation will have their own company name or logo installed on a common product.

You see this all the time in supermarkets and many drug chains, where they have name brand, not famous brand, "house brand" and possibly total "no name", although the no name has fallen from popularity.

Many of these products are very good quality items with good income potential and little in the way of alleged defects. I sell a number of personal electronics items in the unbranded category and do quite well worldwide. I have customers from Poland and Latvia to New Zealand and have been selling online since 2001, so I am neither a flash in the pan, nor an unknown seller where you have to be concerned about getting your goods.

Check out my site by clicking the Trusted, Dependable link below, you'll notice I offer dropshipping and the increasingly popular Small Bulk, with MOQs of 5 units, or 3 in the case of mobile phones.

Hi realdough, there are lots of drop shippers available on the net. You can contact them. Hope they will help you to find products.

All the best!
