Make sure your customer service and support staff are all well-trained and switched-on as well. They can sabotage all your hard work with a negative attitude.

I wouldn't focus so much on the bars. College kids and bars, last thing they are thinking about is buying what you're selling.

I would first focus on getting some signs made up that tout cell phone deals. If there's a lot of foot traffic, the store owner is paying for that traffic and will expect you to maximize what he or she's bought.

Signs are the best way to do get foot traffic in the door.

Then I would focus on ensuring an outstanding customer experience.

1. Greet each customer
2. Ask if they need assistance. You will be surprised by how many people won't ask for help until prompted.
3. If they say they are just looking, casually make suggestions in the "guise" of pointing your own excitement at "just arrive" products or new promotions, sales, etc. You obviously don't want to be pushy but you do want to "sell".
4. If you are the sales manager, it's on you so make sure every one is doing what needs to be done to get the sale. Your job depends on the job they do so expect the same from them as you would expect of yourself to keep your own job. Not more not less.

And as the sales manager, you want to create a culture of selling. That means ensuring the whole team understands everyone is there for one reason. To make the sale. A large part of what is said to the customer should ultimately become a script within an improvisational setting...hope that makes sense.

Also as an assumption, if you were brought in as a remedy or for a change, you may have to consider making some drastic changes. Selling tech, you want people who love tech. A lot of college kids so shouldn't be difficult to find. You want people who know this stuff because they love it. You can teach people to sell but its next to impossible to ask people to have passion about what they are selling...and this really goes back to delivering value for the customer as well.

Once you're maximizing the foot traffic and the ones that come into the store you can work on the "extras" like social media, etc.

Do a grand opening event for your store. put in some goodie bags for discounts on cellphones, get some other stores nearby to participate as well.

Look the cycle od sales when to offer discounts. Christmas season is over. It is now Income Tax refund season. Use these cycles. Plan ahead in marketing plan for these cycle.

To start with sales requires a lot of patience.

Preparing for Sales tasks (or job): Sales is not as tough as some consider. It is actually as easier as making and maintaining friends (or a single GF(for boys) for a life time)

In other words it might be as hard as possible or as pleasing and comforting as it can get, but it all depends on how you handle it.

To start with a soft spoken (*or written) language is critical for sales. Always listen, and "never listen to reply", instead "listen to understand" this makes sales that much easier.

General Sales tips: Always say what they wanna hear (listen) and not what will sell things to you. Start slow and take your time to build trust before starting to speak in a sales voice.

Be friendly to your clients, but never become their inner-circle friend. Never bargain too hard, either back off or let go, this will help you win more often than a long negotiation does.

Finally keep in touch with your clients and potential leads (already contacted unsuccessfully) for you never know when they will be in need of your service again.

Does your store has a website and social media profiles? This is must have because we all want to visit such online places and search for product details from time to time.

Then you can start print advertising and spread the leaflets on the streets and between students especially.

Then you can design some interesting campaigns, discounts for best students and other offline activities to get them to the store.
