Default Do You Outsource Your Work?

For small business it is sometimes hard to hire a specialized person or have a permanent department for some specific tasks due to low budget. Outsourcing or freelancing is the best option available. What kind of work do SME’s generally outsource?

If you’re a business owner, what kind of work do you mostly outsource?

We don't outsource as the services which we offer are rather specific and we are the only ones that can do it.

Many small businesses I know outsource their finance function: they'll have an outside bookkeeper and tax accountant and will use a service for processing payroll.

The company I work for does our accounting/payroll in-house, but we have outsourced graphic design for logos, product packaging and other marketing collateral. We've also tried (without as much success as one might have hoped) outsourcing some customer support and using an outside telemarketer.

I know of a lot of small businesses that do it. Usually they will outsource to anything that they can't directly do within the company. It varies from job to job as to what they need outsourced, but they have pretty good relationships with these companies so they usually get better rates when they use them.

In addition to accounting/payroll, designing & marketing people used to outsource legal work. Also there are companies those outsource manufacturing & do sales part on their own.

As a rule, we outsource some tasks because I think that doing something that you are not an expert in is not professional. A client wants a good high quality product and your reputation depends on clients. So every company has to provide best services and best products.

I see the following reasons why there is a need for outsourcing:

1. Growth - with the growth of a company comes the increase of demands. In order to keep the company's profile, they need to top-up the demands by outsourcing.

2. Overhead Expenses - a specific task can cost big. Outsourcing it can be a better option.

3. Staffing Flexibility - one can take advantage of a 24/7 service when outsourcing overseas (considering the time differences)

4. Continuity of Operation - Indefinite leaves and resignation can sometimes endanger a company's operation. Outsourcing can reduce this risk.

I hope these ideas could help.

I am associated with a BPO company, and we handle outsourcing projects of overseas clients, most of these clients outsource their documentation work, copy paste work and research work to us.
