Smile Business Advice - 3 Tips

There is good news to be had this last week despite the near market crash on Thursday as well as the Greek economic crisis. I've posted two blog articles on my website that I believe are a continued examples of better days ahead for small business. One article relates to small business hiring and the other article relates to bank loans.

For those of you who follow my comments here or on the web, you should know by now that I stand firm on two business related ideas. 1) Business can operate without loans or credit. I do it all the time. 2) The U.S. economy will never get to where it was 15-20 months ago. It is mathematically impossible.

Anyway, with better news about the economy and job losses or gains, now is the time to consider the future of our businesses where we really need to pay attention to the advice we are getting as it relates to "what do I do now"?

I comment on this because I have recently met two business owners who have been given bad advice regarding their operations, where they are now stuck between a rock and a hard place. Both of the men are fine southern gentlemen, respectful and appreciative of what they have built over the years, where unfortunately, I canít even help them now.

It frustrates me to think that there are those out there who prey on the uninformed, the naive and the nice people out there. If I can impart a few words of wisdom when searching for sound, expert advice about your business.

1) Check references
I cannot say it more. We must check references before we listen, hire or do what others "say" is the best move for our business.

2) Get three opinions
Remember that old saying "a second opinion"? Well, in these trying times it is best to get a third opinion! Heck, get a fourth opinion if what you are being told sounds a bit to good to be true.

3) Test the advice before you buy it
In other words, have the person who is giving you the advice prove to you that what he/she is saying actually will work in YOUR business not the last business it worked in.

Businesses are very unique in that success in one business does not always translate to other businesses. It's OK to question advice. It's actually human nature to do that so why aren't we doing that with people who advise us on business.

The economy is slowly getting better where I imagine there will be more and more people out there offering their "professional advice" to help you make your business better. Be careful with advice and follow my 3 tips. You will thank yourself in the end.

Good luck everyone

Everyone should read your post! Checking references is extremely important and one has to think even about getting advice from someone these days! Appreciate your effort in coming up with a good post that is relevant to all business owners.
