It depends on your type of business and who you are trying to attract.

A local business such as a barber or dentist may decide to use newspaper advertisements to attract custom. This is because the customer is most likely to come from the local area.

A local shop may attract customers by good signage or by providing a friendly welcome and good service.

Other businesses such as hotels may use national newpapers or magazines to promote the business.

About 90% of business today is done online. So a good website and online prescence is almost always needed.

What's your target market? Targeted marketing is better than going for a general approach. You don't waste time cold calling people who are likely not interested in your products. Instead, you can focus on people who would love to do business with you.

What can you offer that other businesses like your won't likely be able to compete? Knowing how your company and your products add value to consumers' lives can help you determine what you can use as leverage.

Would data and technology fit well into the equation? A resonating "yes" would be fitting. Now all you need to do is make sure you respond to inquiries and concerns promptly.

When it comes to your website, make sure your phone number, email, and social profiles are also listed so whenever a visitor takes an interest in your products or services, they can reach you right away. If there's one thing we all hate, it's waiting.

It wouldn't also hurt for your business to have a CRM (Sugar, Freshdesk, Salesforce) and phone (Nextiva, BluIP, Cisco) system in place so you can have a dedicated phone like to make and receive calls and keep guest records organized. To ensure all logs and records are in sync, you can take advantage of a PC-phone integration software such as Tenfold. It provides you analytics to see which area you can improve and which targets you're hitting. It can also keep track of emails and SMS exchanges between you and your prospects, so that adds to the convenience.
