Default Best Trade Show Giveaway Idea Ever?

I work in the trade show display industry, and am often asked for advice on other aspects of trade show marketing, including ideas for trade show giveaways. I just read another post that mentioned giving away a keg as a door prize, and it got me wondering, what is the best trade show giveaway idea that you've ever seen? I'm looking for something "outside the box" ... I think we've all seen enough stress balls and keychains (not that there's anything wrong with those)...
Thoughts or opinions?

Hmm... can't think of 1 main thing, but to me anything that someone would use on a daily or regular basis is a good give-away. Like a letter opener with your business card inside, or cell phone holder with your business info on it. Things like that.

Default Best Trade Show Give-Aways Vary by Budget

It really depends how much you can afford to spend on give-aways. A classic and cheap solution is a well designed bag. You can get a custom designed canvas bag made very cheap and you will get a ton of free advertising. People will use them at the show to store handouts from other companies and then will continue to use them after the show in their daily life. It's not a unique or original idea, but as long as you do it right, it's a classic and the best bang for the buck. The trick is to make sure it's well crafted (the handles won't fall off) and the design is clean, stylish and not cheesy or ugly. I grabbed one at a trade show a couple years ago and my fiance still uses it daily.

If you have more money in your budget, I recommend giving away something fun that people will not throw away. If you can relate it to what your company does, that is definitely a big plus. For example, if you're an automotive company, give away remote control cars. A sporting company could give away athletic watches that measure heart rate. Of course, you want everything to be branded with your company's logo. Having some sort of mini contest can limit the number of expensive items you have to give out and attract even more attention to your .

Overall the idea is that whatever you give them you want them to keep as long as possible and use as often as possible.

One giveaway item that has been successful is USB drives. You can upload presentations and information about your business, while also having your company's logo imprinted on it. Every one is doing business digitally these days, so I know most people would appreciate these items.

Default USB drives are good

USB drives are nice because they are something that practically everyone can use and will not toss away. Make sure they are decent though and not the ones that only hold a tiny amount of data or people may still toss them.

We recently purchased some foam rockets... basically, it's a foam dart with a rubber band. You pull the rubber band back and then release to get the rocket going. The trade shows and events we go to are primarily attended by men (many of whom are in sales and spend tons of hours on the phone every day), and they have been a total hit.

USB drives are a good idea, plus they're safe--you can never go wrong with then. However, practically everyone gives them out these days, so they're not very original.

That depends on what you put on them!!!

If you include something out of the box along with your presentation, they can certainly end up being very unique and VIRAL as well.

Default How about giving away a monitor?!

While at first it might seem very expensive, several of our clients have tried giving away monitors when attending shows.

Their thought process was that they either needed to rent a monitor at the show, or purchase one and ship it both ways.

Renting at the show is almost as expensive as buying and shipping - typically you're looking at a total cost of $400+ to rent a monitor and stand.

You can buy a monitor at one of the large warehouse stores for $300, but shipping it both ways - and drayage - makes that cost significantly higher.

However, if you buy a monitor at a warehouse store near the show convention center, you save the shipping cost. And if you carry it in yourself, you eliminate the drayage fee, keeping your total cost around $300.

Start promoting a raffle give-away of the monitor well before the show, letting all of your best clients know, in advance, to stop at your booth and sign up for the raffle. Also promote the raffle at the show, in the show advertising, via tweets, etc.

Clients that have tried this say they always get more than $300 in value from the leads and excitement!
