Default Do Coupons Still Bring Customers For Small Businesses?

Coupons are dead! Long live the coupons! Some people have argued for some time that coupons have gone out of fashion with today’s customers. No one has time to clip coupons anymore. With the advent of internet and Smartphone customers can just pop up digital discounts at the time of purchase rather than looking for and clipping coupons before hitting the mall. The arrival of Groupon and LivingSocial, where customers can buy great deals (sometimes as much as 50-60% off the price) has dented the use of coupons.

While it is true that digital discounts are gaining more popularity it would be wrong to argue that coupons will disappear in the near future, if they have not already. Every new technology brings with it changes that impacts customer behavior. Coupons are no exception. Customers are looking at them through different lens. They are moving from printed version of the coupons to digital ones.

For me, coupons are still available today. Even there's a lot of digital discounts which are more popular, like what you said. I still believe that there are businesses that uses it.

The trick is to build a successful coupon-based campaign tailored to your business. That way, small businesses still benefit from coupons.
Here are some tips to use coupons successfully:
Look at your numbers and decide on the level of discount you can handle. Put limits around your offer to help you cope with demand. Put in place a "one offer per customer" policy so that customers' can't share or re-use the same coupon.
One-off coupons have a place but aim to promote repeat visits. For example, buy X and get Y free on your next visit¯.

I think couponing is still very effective today ... People never lose interest in availing products at a lower price..

Coupons are not dead. I get coupons constantly and use them. When
I create ads for localized business we have an offer of some kind. I may
not do a dashed type boxed offer, but always something.

Default Why digital coupons work better than printed coupons

The BIG advantages that digital coupons have over printed coupons are plentiful — and useful for both buyers and sellers.
  • Digital coupons and printed coupons are both offers that a prospect carries with them. But the digital coupon is carried on their smartphone — it doesn't get easily lost, tattered or obscured, doesn't take up space in pockets, purses or wallets, and it's easy to find — they almost always have it with them.
  • Both digital and printed coupons can be targeted at a specific audience, but the printed coupon has printing and delivery costs that consume time and money. If you mail a physical offer to a list, the postage cost escalates, but the cost per sale is typically much lower.

Digital coupons — whether sent by email, SMS text messaging, push notification or social networking — are virtually instant and cost very little by comparison. By law, they have to be sent to a list of consenting subscribers.
  • Both digital and printed coupons can be tracked using bar codes, but only digital coupons can be tracked to measure buyer intentions and take bookings or orders and payments immediately.
  • Digital coupons can be made easily and instantly shareable with friends, family and colleagues — and capture names and contact information to a subscriber database immediately.
  • Digital and printed coupons can be monitored and measured for buyer response to your offer, but digital coupons are easier and more reliable to record and collate for meaningful feedback. Printed coupons are easily lost, damaged or unreadable, or require manual data entry.
  • Digital coupons are easier and faster to cancel, void or terminate.

Hope this is helpful for you.
