As someone who has several business blogs and a very personal blog [Q's Wire...], I do not believe a lot of personal information should be provided on your business site.

Why then would I have Q's Wire... as such a prominent feature on my business domain [qisoftare.com]? Paraphrasing Barbara Streisand's character in the "Way We Were" -- Only when there is no other choice....

Q...

I do think the best approach is really to keep the topic of the posts on a business blog more on the business side of things and inject personality through your writing.

I probably wouldn't start a post about how I played softball last night and that I had two hits, but made an error in the field and base my entire post around that. What I might do though is use that same information as a lead in to a post or maybe as an analogy for something.

I may also use softball bats and gloves as examples to the point where someone would assume I play softball and in that way personalize myself more.

But I wouldn't just write a post about playing softball that didn't relate to the main topic of my blog.

I agree - I characterize my blog as a business blog, but I'm trying to make sure that it's personal in the way that it treats readers - friendly, yet informative. I try to let me personality come through but the subject matter is 90% about my business experiences. However I don't think there's anything wrong with a little bit of personal information from time to time. It makes it seem more humanized than corporate, like there's a real person behind that business.

I separate my business blog and my personal blog. My business blog only focuses on one site, while my personal blog focuses on all my sites. This way, it really becomes personal, because you're putting in everything you want to put without any limitations. And whenever you post a subject that's somewhat related to one of your site, you can just refer the reader.

I think personalizing yourself or your company is one way a blog can be very effective. For some it might not make sense, but most of the blogs I read regularly do allow me a look into the person writing more so than the rest of their site.

A little personal injection helps me to know the person behind the blog and helps me to trust him or her more than I might otherwise.

Again I woudn't base a post on my business blog about what I had for breakfast, but I might mention why I chose a particular brand of cereal over another to share my thoughts on why the marketing of one was better than another.
