i would suggest try searching on net and collect a list of directories most of them support reciprocal links which definitely help... else you could also try out linkstraffic,link2me... etc... hope they help

Hi Mitch.

Do you have an update?

In abouts 1998-1999 I used a program like that and I think it did quite well for us. But that was almost 10 years ago and times have certainly changed.

Guest posts on blogs. If you have the right type of content the little link back to your site can be a great boost to traffic. Bloggers are always looking for material. It's just like being a freelance writer. Email them and see if they like your idea.

I have tried to link exchange sites, and have been very disappointed with the results. I think all of the people you trade with pull your link within a few days of you placing theirs, and/or they place a no follow tag on their site.

I have recently evaluated all of my major competitors in my market. One had 900 links back to his site, one had about 150, one about 78, and one 13!

I'm thinking to myself, "How does the guy with 13 end up on top?" His links were very relevant to top partners, including the company that did his SEO, but the common link among all of the site was a minimum of 50 pages of relevant content well laid out.

Blogs seem to be a decent place to link from
Online Yellow pages
Directories (although I question most of them)
Relevant sites who are willing to trade links.

From a noob that has been researching this in quite a bit of depth, I don't recommend forcing links.

Pick 1 awesome key phrase (others are on my site, but for this exercise, I needed to pick the best one)
Find out the top 10 google results for that phrase
Register for Yahoo Site Explorer
Use Yahoo Site Explorer to discover the inbound links of my competitors
Visit each site that links to my competitors and see if I could post in their forum, or anything else to get my site linked, including sending them an email asking them to exchange links

Try to search on google by typing your targeted keywords or you can also try on directories on specific categories related to your site. When doing link exchange, it would be better if you can do it manually so that you can also check the quality of sites.

find quality sites with the subject using this tool. Type in your keywords and it will find sites, blogs, whatever you want and you can go ask for a link exchange:
